When your moods keep changing…
When your moods keep changing…
Â
Nothing is more frustrating during pregnancy than the mood swings. At first, you’re happy as can be, but then you’re suddenly crying or angry or just not yourself anymore. Is this something that you just have to ‘deal with’ or is there something that you can do to make yourself more balanced?
Â
The good news is that women with severe mood swings will notice a marked improvement once they give birth. However, in the first few months after birth, your hormones are readjusting from the higher levels, so you may still have some ups and downs.
Â
To help you (and your family) cope, you can do a number of things:
Â
- Take time for yourself – Make sure that you’re getting some time by yourself each day. Even ten minutes a day can help you clear your head and calm your moods.
- Take a walk – Exercise has been proven to help reduce the swings in mood, even for those that aren’t pregnant.
- Get enough sleep – There’s nothing that makes a bad mood more likely than fatigue. You need to make sure that you’re resting during your pregnancy, so make sure that you’re getting to bed early each night. Maybe you can fit in a nap as well, if you have a schedule that allows it.
- Eat a balanced diet – The best way to make sure that your moods aren’t being caused by sugar ups and downs is to watch the foods that you are eating. You want to make sure that you’re getting all of the food groups at each meal, if you can.
- Drink your water – Even dehydration can make you a bit cranky as well, so be sure to sip water throughout the day.
- Talk it out – When you’re having a hard time, make sure that you’re calling someone to talk about it or turning to your partner for help. Just talking about your emotions can help you to deal with them.
Â
Of course, not all women experience mood swings. But with these tips, you can learn how to relax and go with the flow of pregnancy.
